Angel Studios are doing some good stuff in 2024. Cabrini is another one that is a fantastic faith-based film that has already come out this year. The follow-up from that is another inspirational story of a man who finds himself through faith and a little girl’s journey. It’s a film that would get anybody to think about their own lives. Where they are and where they’re headed. It’s an emotional story.

Dr. Ming Wang (Terry Chen, Ben Wang, Jayden Zhang) is an eye surgeon in Nashville, Tennessee.  He works miracles with his partner and friend Misha Bartnovsky (Greg Kinnear). Together, they restore the site of a middle-aged man who has been blind his entire life. This was considered ground-breaking surgery.  When the story of a little girl from Calcutta, India comes to them from their assistant, they can’t help but try again to copy their success from the last surgery.

This film deals with flashbacks as part of the main character’s narrative. He is a Chinese immigrant who fought hard to come to America to get his education to become a doctor. He and his family went through a lot of persecution from communist factions in China. He wasn’t allowed to go to school and learn. He and his friend were constantly bullied into joining this communist faction. It was a constant struggle during his younger years.  It helped him work hard and concentrate more on what mattered to him and his family. This part of the movie gives great context to this man’s future endeavors as an eye surgeon.

With all of Angel Studios films there is an underlying theme of faith and believing in something higher than yourself and your abilities. This story has a fantastic message regarding believing in a higher power. Things don’t always go the way you think they are going to go and believing in something greater than yourself or in the case of this character, himself, is what makes this story so inspiring.  I was genuinely moved at the end of the movie.

I’ve always been a fan of technology and how things are made. Watching the doctors figure out how to try and help these patients was very fascinating to me. The main character studied and looked at various things to come to the conclusion of how to help a number of his patients. That process helped me care more about what he and his team were trying to accomplish.  Even though this was based on a true story I was still intrigued by the story and how it all came about in the end from multiple perspectives.

Greg Kinnear is an actor who started out as a comedian and news magazine host on E Entertainment Television before getting into acting full-time. He’s had his moments to shine in Oscar-nominated films, but lately, he’s been taking roles in smaller films where his characters are more of a supporting nature. That’s the case here with Sight he is a bigger name to add to the poster or marketing campaign. Once you get past his name and actually get into the meat and potatoes of the movie you’ll realize why he took the role. It is a solid bit of casting by the casting director.

Sight is an inspiring film about overcoming odds and even though you’re at the top of your game you still have something to learn and believe it’s greater than yourself. I was genuinely moved by this story and how the flashbacks helped improve the main narrative. The lead actors playing the lead character were all terrific, especially Ben Wang. The supporting cast were all very good and Kinnear was a nice addition to the cast. This movie based on a true story is another winner for Angel Studios.
