This movie was not on my 2025 most anticipated movies list. Not by a long shot. The trailer just didn’t look funny to me. And if the trailer for a comedy movie can’t get me excited for the actual movie, it’s usually dead on arrival for me. There have, however, been instances where the trailer did sell me and get me excited only for all the good stuff to be in the trailer leaving only the dull and unfunny left to witness. And sometimes, movies I had no interest in or am unable to sell end up being big surprises that cause me to enjoy them way more than I thought I was going to. So where does “One of Them Days” stand on the paradigm?

Well, this movie was exactly what I expected it to be. Having said that, the audience that I watched it with seemed to be having a great time watching it and I’m very happy for them. Me as an individual, it never exceeded my expectations. They were met precisely. Now, it wasn’t a bad movie. I thought it was just okay at best. I didn’t feel the need to walk out of the theater so that counts for something.

The movie is about two best friends Druex, played by Keke Palmer, and Alyssa, played by SZA, who find themselves in hot water after losing their rent money. Now they have only a few hours to collect the rent money by any means necessary in order to keep a roof over their heads. They are truly about to have themselves One of Them Days. The movie also features the talents of Patrick Cage, Kat Williams, Joshua David Neal, and many others.

The sole purpose of a comedy is to make its audience laugh. However, comedy is and has always been subjective. While the audience I was watching this movie with was having a great time, I think the movie managed to only get a couple of chuckles out of me. Mainly because of a few unexpected moments or line deliveries. Other than that, this movie didn’t do much for me personally in terms of its humor. I was surprised to see that Kat Williams had more screen time than I expected. I thought he was going to be nothing more than a cameo in the scene that was shown in the trailer.

Overall, “One of Them Days” is one of those quirky high jinks movies along the same lines of “Dude, Where’s My Car?” or “Harold and Kumar” where two friends must reach a simple goal, but along the way, multiple crazy obstacles intercept them on their path that they must overcome. At the time of writing this review, the Rotten Tomatoes score is at a perfect 100% with 24 reviews submitted. I imagine that number could decrease over time because that seems a bit high for this movie, in my opinion. But this movie will no doubt entertain those who seek it out. I’m unsure about the impact for those who stumble upon it, but it’s not a bad movie at all. It was just an average cup of Jo to me. The right audience will undoubtedly have a great One of Them Days at the theater watching this movie.
