The Ugly Stepsister is an IFC/RLJE film based on the fantasy tale of Cinderella. It came out back in April of last year. It has garnered a lot of awards buzz for its makeup and hairstyling. They are amazing. There are multiple moments that will make you not want to look at what’s on screen. That’s mainly because of how incredible these effects are. The film is written and directed by Emilie Blichfeldt and stars Lea Myren, Ane Dahl Torp, Thea Sofie Loch Ness, and Flo Fagerli. It’s available to watch now on Sudder.

Here is my interview with the head of prosthetic makeup designer/special makeup effects artist Thomas Foldberg and Makeup Designer Anne Catherine Sauerberg. They have been shortlisted for the Academy Award for makeup and hairstyling. I believe they are worthy of a nomination because these effects are as good as any I have seen in any film all year. Do yourselves a favor and watch this reimagining of the classic Disney tale. With a dark twist attached to it.
