“Evil Dead Burn” movie review A Bloody Groovy Good Time For Fans Evil is back and it’s ready to Burn! The original “Evil Dead” movie released back in 1981, well before my birth, and from what I’ve heard caused audiences of the time to walkout en masse or otherwise fainted due to the relentless gore and torment of the characters on screen. Of course, certain audiences overtime grew stronger stomachs, or grew more sadistic, and the movie became a hit resulting in multiple sequels, spin-offs, and a series. Now we have a brand-new entry into the franchise! And no, I’m not talking about “Lee Cronin’s The Mummy” despite him claiming that it’s part of the “Evil Dead” franchise, which I don’t think fans are ever going to acknowledge despite his work on “Evil Dead Rise”. No, I’m talking about “Evil Dead Burn”! Only question is can this new entry carry the fire left from its predecessors or will this franchise fizzle out?

“Evil Dead Burn” follows a grieving family mourning the loss of a loved one. But during this wake, the dead become awake when Evil grabs hold and does what it does best in goriest fashion! The Deadites are back and ready to wreak havoc in the most brutal ways upon this family. Squeamish beware, fans prepare.

A lot of people seem to have really enjoyed the previous entry “Evil Dead Rise”. I personally thought it was okay. I didn’t love it as much as others did. I remember the marketing making a big deal with a cheese grater that had only 5 seconds of screen time and I remember the shotgun hallway scene looking noticeably fake. It wasn’t bad, but it did have some noticeable flaws. I don’t remember revisiting it any time recently since it’s physical release. Which reminds me, buy physical not digital. But “Evil Dead Burn” I personally enjoyed more. I know it has a smaller positive Rotten Tomatoes score than the previous one, but I stand by what I said.

I thought this movie had a good story and very good execution, in more ways than one. I like that it wasn’t afraid to do certain things and it wasn’t afraid to just be downright brutal with it. Animal lovers be warned. The movie is chockfull of blood and gore that you’ve come to expect from these movies, but it also occasionally does non-blood-related things that can still gross you out. It also has humor which definitely got more than a few chuckles out of me.

Another thing that I really liked about this particular entry is the subject matter that it takes on. One that I’m sure many will find to be a relatable, yet sensitive subject matter. Not about loss or death, but something else that I don’t want to give away. I was impressed that they incorporated it into the narrative of an “Evil Dead” movie which was well captured by the actors in the film. Despite not knowing a single face or name on screen, which in most cases is a good thing especially with the horror genre, they all understood the assignments they were given and executed them very well.

Overall, “Evil Dead Burn” is another solid entry into the franchise. Loaded with bloody, gore, and brutality with some humor sprinkled in. It was very well shot, which reminds me of a very impressive long shot that was in the film. This movie does have the longest runtime of the franchise, and I would say that you do feel it more towards the beginning during character introductions. But despite seeing this movie pretty late at night, for me at least, I was fully engaged with everything that was going on from start to finish. I didn’t even notice that it was well past my beddy-bye time until I walked out of the theater. Needless to say, if you’re an “Evil Dead” fan, you’re going to enjoy this latest entry and if you’re not a fan, this entry won’t make one of you. But the way I see it, this franchise still Burns bright.
