Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s next film, Digger, dropped the first full trailer this morning. Marking the return of Tom Cruise to non-action movies, his first since 2012’s Rock of Ages, Digger looks to be a satirical sci-fi comedy that may be the vehicle for Cruise to launch a massive awards-season campaign. He’s already going all in and all out with early screenings featuring a giant shovel on display outside the venue. It’s also great to see how stacked a supporting cast Iñárritu has assembled, with Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons, and Michael Stuhlbarg As for the film itself, it looks fun and will likely feature commentary regarding environmentalism and corruption amongst political leaders. That being said, I’m looking forward to seeing Digger and am eager to see what comes of it this October. Here’s the trailer.
