Who doesn’t like Lego? It’s been around forever, and the business continues to boom. We may not have another official Lego Movie arriving any time soon, but that’s not stopping Disney and Lucasfilm from producing new Lego content for Disney+! They do it for Marvel as well, but those are very hit and miss. But with the popularity of The Mandalorian, it only makes sense to make that into a Lego short for Disney+, and now we have it! Aptly titled, “Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian”. Is it worth your time, or will it fall to pieces?

“Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian” is a very interesting little project in more ways than one. On the surface, the story is pretty basic. The story starts off with the Mandalorian being tricked into attending a party thrown by Peli Motto, voiced by Amy Sedaris who played her in the series, and from there, it is pretty much a Lego recap of the entire “Mandalorian” series.

I didn’t have a lot of interest in this short. It’s true that I’m a stop-motion animator who utilizes Lego bricks to create stories. But that method is expensive and time-consuming for a major studio’s liking. So much like with “The Lego Movie”, these simply use CGI animation and make it act like stop-motion animation. It’s not my favorite method, but I get it from a studio’s standpoint to spend less money and resources. But after I watched it, I thought it was just okay for what it is.

One of the things that surprised me the most with this short is how many people came back to reprise their roles in this project. The cast list is actually very impressive for this. This project includes the voice of Amy Sedaris who I already mentioned, but it also includes Steve Blum, Bill Burr, Temuera Morrison, Nick Nolte, Timothy Olyphant, Rosario Dawson, Katee Sackhoff, and Giancarlo Esposito. I was genuinely surprised by how many people returned just for this. Of course, not everyone was willing to return, so we have Gavin Hammon voicing The Mandalorian and Eric Bauza taking on a few voice roles.

Needless to say, “Lego Star Wars: The Mandalorian” is a harmless Lego short for children who are Mandalorian fans. For me, this was a one-and-done experience. Not because it’s bad, but because if I wanted to revisit “The Mandalorian” I would just rewatch “The Mandalorian”. But this is fine to put on for children who might not be willing to sit through three seasons of “The Mandalorian” and one season of “The Book of Boba Fett” to get caught up on the story. But as it stands, this set is adequately put together for ages 7 and up.
