Episode four of “Lanterns” is going to be the long-awaited confrontation between Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and Sinestro (Ullrich Thomsen). As you’d imagine, it was a bit contentious. These two longtime adversaries argue about things because one has ulterior motives and the other is stubborn. Finally, the series is starting to get to the bottom of what was going on regarding Manhunters and what is going on in the ranch owned by William Macon (Garrett Dillahunt). Everybody is a threat, and everyone is in danger. 

The Guardians try to get John to replace Hal, but it’s too early because John (Aaron Pierre) still trusts him despite what the Guardians may think. They need each other to root out the Manhunter. Once again, the detective aspects of the series are coming out instead of the comic book aspects.  Sure, there will be the occasional creation by the power ring like a big burrowing machine, but that’s just a small taste of what the Green Lanterns can do. That’s what’s frustrating as a fan of these characters and the world of the DC Universe. I want to see more comics type stuff.

Episode four has a really good score that shows how tension filled this episode is. It’s pretty intense music. Even some classic music in particular is quite prevalent and dramatic. The score is overpowering in a lot of scenes.  Along with the score, the banter between Kelly MacDonald ‘s character Kerry and Hal is strong, as well as the connection between John and Poorna Jagannathan’s character Zoe. The relationship stuff is a surprise to me. I didn’t expect that there would be romantic entanglements in “Lanterns.The score and these romantic entanglements go hand in hand, which is pretty crazy how they are connected. 

The long-awaited benefactor is finally revealed, and it’s exactly who you’d think they’d be. The series uses a lot of things from the Green Lantern lore and weaves them into this particular story that Tom King is telling. The slow nature of said storytelling is what is so bothersome to me, and I’m sure a lot of other people. Comic book fans are running out of patience with the slow nature of the show. As a patient person myself I can only put up with so much. I want things to move faster than they are, but with this being the middle episode, the progression is moving in the right direction. I just wish it would move faster for my sake.
