Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) first appeared in last year’s  “Superman“ the first film in James Gunn & Peter Safran’s New DC Studios. He was part of the Justice Society of America. He had a Green Lantern ring in that film, so he was part of the Green Lantern Corp. How he got the ring from Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) is the big question that still has to be answered. It seems like that answer is yet to come after five episodes of “Lanterns” have aired. Maybe Tom King, Damon Lindelof, James Gunn, and showrunner Chris Mundy will release that in due time. I feel most fans want to know some answers sooner than later. Hopefully, the show will eventually give the answers we’ve all been looking for sooner rather than later.

Another flashback to 2007, focusing on Sheriff Kerry Kane. Her car breaks down, and she pushes it to diner, where she is confronted by two dangerous looking men, and she gets saved by Zoe (Poorna Jagannathan). They make a deal to help each other in a pinch. Flashforward to the present time in the show, and Kyle is looking in on John (Aaron Pierre) as he’s stuck in a crashed car. Kyle confronts Kerry Kane about Zoe, and she tells him what she means to her. As the car is exploding. Kyle has no choice but to eliminate the threat. Zoe tries to make a deal with John while he’s on his deathbed. Things start to get more and more complicated for Kyle and John. They get into a fight at the Rushville motel. Kyle finds new friends to help him and tries to make a deal with them. Things don’t go exactly as he’d hoped they would, though.

Just when I thought things were starting to clarify themselves, they get more complicated than ever. The differences between Kyle and John are going to be hard to overcome as the season moves forward. When one enemy is uncovered, others are crawling out of the woodwork. The layers of the series show that it’s a very in-depth show. King and the Lindelof with Mundy don’t make it easy on themselves. Fans of the show will keep watching and maybe will follow along with what’s going on but new fans who aren’t familiar with Green Lantern lore are going to be confused by a lot of what happened in episode five. As someone who knows a lot about the characters and the lore, I am left scratching my head.

“Lanterns” episode five is an explosive episode. There are finally some fireworks for fans who have been waiting for something to happen. A lot of questions are answered, but new ones are cropping up. The confusion is stronger than ever, though. Just when you think things have come to a conclusion, things between Kyle, John, and the Guardisns get more complicated. Whose side are they on. Can they co-exist with each other after what happened in this episode.Their relationship difficult as it was may be forever tarnished to the point of no return. The showrunner Mundy and the writer must have a plan, but it’s not clear to me what it is after this episode. I’m torn on what my final thoughts are, but one this is for sure. I can’t wait to see what happens next in episode six.
